Q: Yearly car inspection?
Hey, we live in Texas now and our car is registered in Mississippi. Where can i get a car inspection in Killeen,TX, even though we have out of state licence plates? I heard i can get it done here but i just dont know where.

A: This should answer your questions about out of state vehicles: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/Misc/faq/outstate.htm You can locate a Killeen inspection station here: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/inspection/new_locator.asp

Q: Russian Cars?
i love the GAZ Volga, it is Russian. but i live in Killeen Texas and i need to know how to get one. idk if i go to like automax and order it from Russia, or if their r any dealers around

A: The only Soviet/Russian cars that were/are available in North America are Ladas - predominantly 4x4 Nivas - in Canada. No other dealerships were ever established in North America, I doubt there even were any talks about that. There are several possible options for you. Try to connect with Russians in Chicago or NY. They for sure can bring you one - add several K for transportation. Some Volgas are still running in Cuba. But an American can fly there only thru Canada, again, and there's no guarantee you can get Cuban visa and haul you GAZ back. Contact GAZ plant directly. I can help you with Russian. All in all, Volgas were and still are quite crappy - in terms of quality, design, etc. Please specify - are you looking for a modern Volga or that one of the 60es GAZ-21 with rounded lights and beefy silhouette?

Q: how much should i pay to get the head gaskets replaced on my '91 cadillac sedan deville?
im not sure if the heads are warped, but i think that the car only needs head gaskets....im located in killeen texas

A: It depends. What size motor? I can't remember what they put in those. If a head gasket has blown, there is a reason for it. You can't just replace head gaskets. If you are doing it yourself, you will need to take the head(s) to a machine shop to have them milled and pressure checked. The best thing to do is call some shops and ask them. Different shops have different markup and labor rates. When I do head gasket replacements on v8's it usually runs about 700.00

Q: Why does KILLEEN, TEXAS suck so much?
Employers suck, ALL car dealers are crooks, people all high on drugs, people breaking into houses, people commiting murder, military hate it here, too god damn hot in the summer.....NOTHING IS GOOD HERE.

A: I was going to make a sarcastic crack about it being because you are there, but you sound depressed enough already.

Q: How long would it take??
To get from Austin Texas to Killeen Texas by car? Is there a faster option? Thankyou.

A: go to mapquest.com and scroll down to the second dialogue boxes that says "directions". Here's what I got. 1 hour 21 minutes. 77.72 miles

Q: what is the actual worth of hyundai's warranty?
I had a warranty claim with hyundai at automax hyundai in killeen texas and they told me they needed to have me sign a paper saying if they found something that didn't appear to be hyundai's fault they would charge me a diagnostic fee! for a headlight lens cover on a 2005 car with 23000 miles. what is there to diagnose? I called hyundai and they said each dealer is independent and can basically do what they choose. Beware new car buyers.

A: Consider this, there are 3 kinds of repairs in a dealership service dept. There is customer pay, warranty and internal. Internal is the repairs to the vehicles that are in stock, customer pay are the repairs paid for by the customer and warranty, of course, is repairs paid for by the manufacturer. When you walk in the door and say "My check engine light is on" (for instance), The repair is presumed by the customer to be covered under warranty, but, if the check engine light is on is caused by a gas cap that is left off....it becomes customer pay. The technician is on a commission pay plan, so he needs to flag the time, no matter who pays for it. So, as the service advisor, you must caution the customer and tell them that, if the repair is a result of some non-warranty condition, then you will be responsible for the diagnostic charges. Now, having said that...charging a diag fee for a headlight seems a little silly, but, most likely, the service advisors are trained to treat all customers the same to make sure that there are no surprises. I assure you that there are some dealers who are pushed to make their numbers by the management and that sometimes leaves the customers feeling no love. You didn't specify what was wrong with the headlight on your car, but I think someone should have just walked out to the car and verified your concern without pushing the issue. But, I wasn't there and don't no how busy or shorthanded they may have been. I can tell you that I eat a lot of small repairs in the name of a good CSI score!!

Q: Townhouse or apartment in Killeen, Texas...?
I'll be moving to Killeen, TX in mid-August and was trying to decide where I should live. After hours of research I've come down to two choices. One is a one bedroom/one bath apartment, cheaper to rent but you still need to pay for your own utilites, smaller, but gated community or a townhouse, bigger, pay for your own utilites. I'm an RN so paying for either wouldn't be a problem. I just want a safe, clean environment but I don't want it too expensive because I'm trying to pay off my car. What do you think? Apartment: http://www.apartments.com/partner/summary.aspx?p=yahoore&partner=yahoore&page=summary&HideBackResults=T&property=147716.4 Townhouse:http://killeen.craigslist.org/apa/737082821.html

A: The apartment is in a better area. They're really not that far apart, geographically, but crime rates in Killeen are high, and you might feel safer in the gated community w/limited access. Our law enforcement staff is growing rapidly, with the goal of 2 officers per 1,000 population in the next year or two. Please feel free to e-mail me for "best location" recommendations, I'm happy to help (not a realtor, either!) Family & I have rented frequently & now own our own home here in Killeen for many years.

Q: Could my 1994 Mazda Protege DX make it pulling a trailer from Killeen, TX to New Jersey?
I have a 1994 mazda protege with 150,000 miles that i recently bought, it was well taken care of before. I am moving from Ft. Hood TX with my husband he's in the US Army back home to NJ, we don't have too many things to do so he wants pull a trailer with our stuff, and I want to just rent a u haul and attach our car because I dont think it will make it? I need some opinions! Thank You!

A: Towing with your '94 Mazda Protege is hard on both the engine and the transmission. The specs I've found for the car (at least in the US) show the Manufacturer does Not recommend towing with this vehicle. In Europe (see 2nd attached web article), small cars tow more frequently than in the US. A general rule of thumb is that your car can tow about 30% of its weight; however, it actually matters whether you have the 1.5L engine or the 1.8L one, the latter having about 30hp more. I've enclosed a 3rd web article showing you how to calculate what you can tow.....but... With all that said, if it were me, I'd rent the Uhaul deisel truck and tow the car. I think the potential damage to your older, high mileage car would be much more expensive than a Uhaul rental. And I think this is the safer option.

The car salesman here are the worst especially at cleo bay honda. They couldn't sell beer to an alcoholic.

Q: has anyone heard of a type of program that offers to donate cars to a family in need?
I recently relocated to Killeen Texas from Pennslvania in order to give my 3 children a better quality of life.i just recently became employed and am saving up money to find a decent place to live as i am a single mom.Unfortunately financing a car is never an option due to the fact that my credit is absolutely horrible and i cant afford it. In this town you need a car to go every and anywhere.I'd be willing to pay a couple of hundred dollars for a hooptie just to be able to get to work i currently walk 3 miles to and from work any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated thanks.

A: look into government auctions. i think that when you donate a car to charity they don't give it to families. instead they auction it off and use the money for thier charity. one thing you could do is buy a scooter or motorcyle. they are not hard to learn to ride. you can get a scooter for a couple hundred. a lot of people around here have one. if you don't want this option then invest in a bicycle. its probably healthier for you anyway.
