Q: i need help on a moving situation.?
i have a job and im currently living with my mom. i have no vehicle... so that is somewhat of a problem i want to move to get out of this lil town and further my life. i would like to move to corpus christi, texas or maybe even houston, texas not too sure yet. i will still need to get a car. a apartment. get enlisted itno school... so do u think this will be a good idea? what all will i need to do to succeed?? i need help

A: I think it's a great idea. You might want to look into a city that has excellent public transportation so that you don't even need a car. Many people that live in cities with good transportation don't have cars, or rarely use them. I don't know anything about Corpus but I do know that I dislike Houston very much. Used to live there and it's a traffic nightmare with a very high crime rate and hot/humid as anywhere in the US. I would suggest looking at Chicago, Austin, Seattle or some other cities before you make a decision. Good luck with spreading your wings!!

Q: 19 Hour Road Trip From SC To TX?
I am thinking of taking a road trip from columbia, sc to corpus christi, tx which is a 19 hour trip, what should i do to prepare my car. It's a 2005 honda civic with about 75k miles on it. Also, what time of day would be the best to travel and where should i rest? and is it safe to nap at a rest stop? i'd prefer not to have to stop at a hotel but i will if necessary. is it possible to drive this whole way without really stopping to sleep. maybe resting for 20 minutes every 5 hours?

A: Being a truck driver I am familiar with your anticipated route of direct travel.I would encourage you to take your car to a trusted mechanic, who is familiar with that make of car,and ask them to look the car over, and tell them what you anticipate doing and what time of year that you might take such trip.It is said a half ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.Depending on time of year when traveling and condition of car, I personally prefer traveling at night as their are a few less nuts out at night, but they are out there.During the summer times temps in south texas easily reach in excess 100 degrees so if you drive during the day don't drive hard it'll only add stress on the car.I would suggest driving at night when coolest.I would also suggest decent sleep every night as fatigue kills a lot of people needlessly.I would encourage you not stay in rest area at night unless you have to,they are patrolled fairly well. The state of Ms.has armed security in all rest areas at night. If you stop at rest areas in texas there are signs in most of the rest areas stating to be aware of rattlesnakes, watch your step. You'll hear them before you get to them, keep pets on short leash and out of the weeds. If you stay in motels make sure they are well lit and not some el cheapo dump (you get what you pay for) U.S 59 out of Houston is a good road and there are many well lit gas stations and a few small towns that you will go thru easily,it is widely traveled down to I-37 where you would take it south in to Corpus Christi.Good Luck,Enjoy you trip

Q: What can I do, due to police shooting out a perps tire the guy runs into me and totaled my 2002MercuryMarquis
The guy only had Liability insurance and had hit 11 other cars before hitting me. I am now without a vehicle, bruised from head to toe and mad because I cannot go anywhere. I have a mother in a convalesant home in San Antonio that depends on me and I live in the Corpus Christi area . Who can I talk to that will help me get another car. I am unable to work a regular job and only work part time as a home care assistant. I don't have the means to pay for another car. Doesn't the police have to buy me another vehicle because it was their fault the guy hit me. If they hadn't shot his tire he would not have crossed the road and T-Boned me. Please--- what can I do?

A: Liability insurance is what pays for the damage to other peoples cars. So if you were going to make a claim against his policy...the liability is what you would file under. So...file a claim against his policy. If they deny you ( since he's engaged in an illegal act...depending on the language of his policy -could happen) or his liability coverage is not enough to pay for the damage to your car....then you get his company to put that in writing and then file against your own policy. If his company denies coverage - you would file under your Uninsured Motorist coverage. If his company accepts coverage and liability but does not have enough limits to pay for all the cars involved...you would file under you Under-Insured Motorist coverage. Your agent should be able to help you file the claim. The police do not have to buy you another car. The accident is not the police departments fault. They have a duty to stop bad guys who refuse to stop voluntarily. It's the fault of the guy who refused to stop for the police officer.

Q: What's wrong with the youth today; were you this bad growing up?
Boy, 12, Accused Of Fleeing Texas Police At 60 mph CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A 12-year-old boy took his grandmother's car and led police on a chase at speeds up to 60 mph before swerving to avoid spikes in the road and crashing into a fence, police said. The boy was treated for a small cut to the head then taken to Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center, where he remained in custody Tuesday, chief juvenile probation officer Homer Flores said. Corpus Christi Police Capt. Todd Green said officials spotted the youngster in the car late Monday at a stop sign near his grandparents' home. Names of the boy and his grandparents were not released. When an officer approached the boy, he sped away and the pursuit began, authorities said. Authorities placed spikes in the road to stop him. While swerving to avoid them, he lost control of the car, struck a curb and ran into a chain-link fence, police said. He was stopped about a mile from his grandparents' house. Green said he was going as fast as 60 mph in a 35 mph zone. He said the boy does not appear to have a history of theft or other criminal activity. Officials believe he was living with his grandparents. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080827/ap_on_re_us/boy_police_chase;_ylt=AsjPlb2BrP7K0XkYmIZcOvPtiBIF

A: The following does NOT pertain to all young people. Got that? The vast majority of them are great and well behaved. But.... I don't think many young people have strong parental role models. Unfortunately, many of the parents these days seem unable to either set limits, or, make sure they were aware of what their child was doing at all times. In this case, it was the grandparents who left the doors unlocked. I suppose they thought they could trust him, but obviously not. Makes you wonder what the boys parents are like. And, it's NOT a case of the older generation always assuming the younger is worse. Crime statistics, children born without a father around, guns all over the place, and people in general who would rather argue with authorities instead of following orders. THOSE behaviors are new and within the 21 and younger group. Children talk back to teachers. That didn't happen in my generation. We had respect for the teachers and wouldn't dare say anything out of line. Now, please note that I am NOT TALKING ABOUT ALLLLL TEENS! Just the ones that make the news. I realize there are a great many youths who do have a goal and behave accordingly.

Q: Is Americans getting the Real MCain?
John Sidney McCain III entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1954. Young McCain wanted to become an admiral. He planned to be the "first son and grandson of four star admirals" to achieve such a distinction. But that was not to be. McCain III possessed none of the innate character and discipline traits that helped mold his father and grandfather into great military leaders. His father, John S. "Junior" McCain, and grandfather, John S. McCain, Sr., were famous four-star Admirals in the U.S. Navy. His father commanded U.S. forces in Europe before becoming commander of American forces fighting in Vietnam. His grandfather commanded naval aviation at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. Both men became highly influential in U.S. Navy operations. At the Academy, aside being known as a "rowdy, raunchy, underachiever" who resented authority, Cadet McCain became infamous as a leader among his fellow midshipmen for organizing "off-Yard activities" and hard drinking parties. Robert Timberg wrote in his book, The Nightingale's Song, that "being on liberty with John McCain was like being in a train wreck." McCain's grades were "marginal." He drew so many demerits for breaking curfew and other discipline issues that he graduated fifth from the bottom of the class of 1958. Despite his low "class standing," and no doubt because of the influence of his family of famous Admirals, McCain was leap-frogged ahead of more qualified applicants and granted a coveted slot to be trained as a navy pilot. Good Party Animal - Bad Pilot: He spent the next two and a half years as a "naval aviator in training" at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas, flying A-1 Skyraiders. While a pilot trainee, McCain continued to party hard. He drove a Corvette and dated an exotic dancer named "Marie the Flame of Florida." Timberg wrote that McCain "learned to fly at Pensacola, though his performance was below par, at best good enough to get by. He liked flying, but didn't love it." McCain Lost Five Military Aircraft McCain, the "below par" pilot, eventually lost 5 military aircraft, the first during a training flight in 1958 when he plunged into Corpus Christi Bay while trying to land. The Navy ignored the crash and graduated McCain in 1960. While deployed in the Mediterranean, the hard partying McCain lost a second aircraft. Timberg described the crash: "Flying too low over the Iberian Peninsula, he took out some power lines which led to a spate of newspaper stories in which he was predictably identified as the son of an admiral." Unscathed, McCain returned to Pensacola Station where he was promoted to flight instructor for Naval Air Station Meridian in Mississippi. The airfield at Meridian, McCain Field, was named in honor of McCain's grandfather. In 1964 McCain became involved with Carol Shepp, a model from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he had met at Annapolis. They were married in Philadelphia on July 3, 1965. Flight instructor McCain lost a third aircraft while flying a Navy trainer solo to Philadelphia for an Army-Navy football game. Timberg wrote that McCain radioed, "I've got a flameout" before ejecting at one thousand feet. McCain parachuted onto a beach moments before his plane slammed into a clump of trees. The Navy dismissed the crash as "unavoidable" and assigned McCain to the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in December 1966, which was patrolling the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. In Spring 1967, the Forrestal was assigned to join the Operation Rolling Thunder bombing campaign against North Vietnam. McCain lost his fourth plane on board the Forrestal on July 29, 1967 when a rocket inadvertently slammed into his bomb laden jet. McCain escaped, but the explosions that followed killed 134 sailors. McCain was transferred from the badly damaged Forrestal to the USS Oriskany. Shortly afterwards, on Oct. 26, 1967, he was shot down and captured by the Vietnamese. Post-POW Years: Political Ambition and a New, Young, Rich Wife Upon his release from North Vietnam and return to the United States in 1973, McCain reunited with his wife, Carol, who had been permanently crippled in a car accident while he was a POW. Still yearning to become an admiral, McCain enrolled in the National War College at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. and underwent physical therapy in order to fly again. The Navy excused his permanent disabilities and reinstated him to flight status, effectively positioning him for promotion. Timberg described McCain's advancement: "in the fall of 1974, McCain was transferred to Jacksonville as the executive officer of Replacement Air Group 174, the long-sought flying billet at last a reality. A few months later, he assumed command of the RAG, which trained pilots and crews for carrier deployments. The assignment was controversial, some calling it favoritism, a sop to the famous son of a famous father and grandfather, since he had not first commanded a squadron, the usual career path." While Executive Officer and later as Squadron Commander McCain used his authority to arrange frequent flights that allowed him to carouse with subordinates and "engage in extra-marital affairs." This was a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice rules against adultery and fraternization with subordinates. But, as with all his other past behaviors, McCain was never penalized; instead he always got away with his transgressions. Timberg wrote, "Off duty, usually on routine cross-country flights to Yuma and El Centro, John started carousing and running around with women. To make matters worse, some of the women with whom he was linked by rumor were subordinates . . . At the time the rumors were so widespread that, true or not, they became part of McCain's persona, impossible not to take note of." In early 1977, Admiral Jim Holloway, Chief of Naval Operations promoted McCain to captain and transferred him from his command position "to Washington as the number-two man in the Navy's Senate liaison office. McCain was promptly given total control of the office. It wasn't long before the "fun loving and irreverent" McCain had turned the liaison office into a "late-afternoon gathering spot where senators and staffers, usually from the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees, would drop in for a drink and the chance to unwind." In 1979, while attending a military reception in Hawaii, McCain met and fell in love with Cindy Lou Hensley, 17 years his junior, who was the daughter of James W. Hensley, a wealthy Anheuser-Busch distributor from Phoenix, Arizona. McCain filed for and obtained an uncontested divorce from his wife in Florida on April 2, 1980 and promptly married Cindy on May 17, 1980. He resigned from the Navy in 1981 and went to work for his father-in-law in Phoenix; where he used the opportunity to make powerful and wealthy friends in Arizona including banker Charles Keating and Duke Tully, the editor-in-chief of the Arizona Republic. Keating was later convicted of fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy and Tully was disgraced for concocting a phony military record of combat in Korea and Vietnam including medals for heroism. McCain ran for Arizona's First Congressional District in 1982. McCain won the congressional seat. In 1987 McCain was elected to the US Senate. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1961665/posts

A: Gosh how did you fit all of that in one box without adding additional information? I think McCain acts like a child and has a chip on his shoulder.

Q: Will my car make it this far..?
I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar that has 168,330 miles on it. I'm about to be getting rid of it to get a new car but I'm driving out to Corpus Christi this Thursday and coming back Monday. It's only a 247 mile drive there but I need to know if my car will make it that far or if I should find another way out there...

A: Why wouldnt it make it there? I have a 1996 cougar that has a v8 and I drove 800mi recently although my car only has 50k miles. I would say if it hasnt shown any trouble recently you should be okay. Just check your fluids and tire pressure b4 u head out.

Q: My friend is moving to Corpus Christi?
and she now lives in Kentucky. We live in a place that is all white, very redneckish, but no crime hardly at all. Never lock our doors when we sleep and never lock are cars when we go places. Her mom got a job at Corpus Christi A&M and her and her brother get to go there to school for free. She doesn't tan well, therefore she doesnt like to be outside that much. She is very quite and doesnt make friends easily and personall I think she is going to hate it. Every family member that I have but 1 lives in Texas, but they live in Houston, Arlington, Orange, Del Rio, Austin.....everywhere. I love Texas, but I think Corpus Christi is a very dangerous place to live. Am I wrong or what? Do you think my friend will like Corpus Christi? All her family lives here, grandparents, cousins, etc. Her boyfriend is in the army and he is stationed 6 hours away. She thinks that she will get to see him more if she moves there..... Will she hate it?

A: Corpus Christi is an awful place. The crime is out of control, gangs, mexican mafia , drugs you name it ! My husband and I went down there last winter for work. We were there for 8 long months. I never want to go back. Theft is rampant down there lock your doors, your car, don't leave anything outside you want to keep or it'll be gone. It's a dirty little city with unkept buildings and homes. Padre Island is ok but the beaches always have seedweed washed up (lots of it) on shore and theres soooo many people.I doubt she'll like it much.

Q: how is texas?
How are the neighborhoods in corpus christi? How is the work? How cheap are the apartments or how expensive? where would it be nice to live in in corpus christi? Is it necessary to have a car in corpus christi? Is there transportation, buses, cabs? thanks.

A: You will need a car in Corpus, some buses but not so nice. Rentals will vary by neighborhood, the closer to the bay the higher the rent. It's a pretty city in many ways, but is sometimes referred to as the "Redneck Rivera" best of luck to you!

Q: Do American Oil Companies have any responsibility whatsoever to protect American citizens?
“Bobi Miller needs only to open the door of her home in Corpus Christi, Texas, to see the effects of toxic waste from the Koch West oil refinery. Miller's back yard and car is covered in a thick black sludge, and across the street is the school where she used to teach before a lawsuit revealed that the Koch refinery had released ninety tons of benzene, a highly toxic chemical. Miller and other teachers were often forced to implement a safety procedure called "shelter in place," keeping students inside with the air conditioner off on days when Koch was pumping waste into the air. Today the school's playground is completely deserted: The company bought the property, and children no longer play in the yard. Before the school closed, Miller would often come home to find her husband, Jim, prone on the couch with a headache. In 2001, Jim was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had a tumor removed. . Today, when he speaks, there is a distinct wheeze, and his breathing is labored. Bobi suffers from sarcoidosis, a disease that causes shortness of breath, persistent coughing and skin rashes. "We've always wondered whether that's from living close to the refineries," she says. "We very often hear the sirens from the refinery, and we don't know what they mean. It's very scary." Short-term exposure to benzene, a natural part of crude oil and gasoline, can cause drowsiness, dizziness and unconsciousness; long-term effects include leukemia and a decrease in the size of women's ovaries. According to a recent study by the Texas Department of State Health Services, overall birth defects in Corpus Christi from 1996 to 2002 was eighty-four percent higher than the state average.” http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/13751944/the_dark_side_of_texas_pete_maiden_reports_on_corpus_christis_koch_industries LET ME REPEAT THAT: "overall birth defects in Corpus Christi from 1996 to 2002 was eighty-four percent higher than the state average.” EDIT: I am stunned by the several posters who say, "Move." How is "moving" related to the Oil companies poisoning of the air, soil, water? It is not acceptable for any company to foul, pollute, poison, ruin the air we breate, the soil we grow our food from, or the water we drink. Everything is connected. Everybody is accountable. "Move," my butt.

A: Not that easy. T-bone: You think that the system is so healthy and functional that if you are wronged by a corporation all it takes to defend your self is get a lawyer? Like that is going to stop the cancer, like the courts are going to rule the kind of payments that would deter other corporations from doing similar things. Truth is, as long as people don't get out and show the government and corporations that there are consequences to wronging us, hurting us, murdering us, dropping bombs on us and all of those nasty things they like to do, they will just keep on doing them. A-maze: Greed? what is that like the useless response that human nature is the reason the world is ruled by effete assholes? The problem with the world is ignorance, not greed. Greed is over with a bang. The Weathermen and the Panthers could have defeated greed. Hizbullah could defeat greed. No, the problem is that the people who are being sodomized by the albino plague you call a government, that sore pestering with pus you call the White House, the people at the bloody end of the stick are not taught history or rhetoric and have been taught to teach the slightly more literate and trust the buffoons on the screen. The problem is that people have not been taught that a democracy does not work every for years, it's a working machine, and unless you fuel it with dissent, repression corrupts it like rust. If people knew that the men in the suits are deathly afraid of all of us, with good reason, and that when our patience runs out it will become unprofitable to suck us dry. The problem is the population is powerful and it does not even know it. Blue, always a pleasure.

Q: Is there a Volvo car-dealership in Corpus Christi, TX, and if so, do they have a website?
I'm looking into buying a used Volvo and would feel better knowing I could go to the dealership in case of any upcoming repairs and wouldn't have to special-order the parts somewhere. P.S. I went to the volvo.com website and I couldn't locate a dealership... ...wanted to add that I already found the car I'm seriously thinking of buying, but just wanted to make sure there was a Volvo dealership nearby in case of any upcoming repairs. :-)

A: there is one, but you can buy used volvos at any dealership, but the best thing to do is search on line

Q: Need procedures to get Drivers License and car registration in Corpus Christi, Texas.?

A: go to the texas dept of public safety website and go to FAQ(Google the address for TDPS)

Q: How far inland should i go to avoid hurricane Ike, I live in Corpus Christi, TX, and......?
my car won't make it to San Antonio where i have family. I'm wondering how far inland would be considered safe( i don't care if i'm where it's still raining, just not the worst of it)....and i live in an older apt. and im worried about staying here, but i need get out of here but to where my car won't break down on me.

A: As far as you can get. 100 miles is definitely safe. The threat decreases exponentially the further away you get. I grew up on the coast and we considered 50 miles safe. The worst thing you can do is panic and no, your family should not come get you. 110 people died during evacuations from Rita. Avoid driving on the roads if possible (meaning those far inland), but if you are on the coast, you are the one who needs to get out and get to where you can.

Q: I had an accident on HWY in Corpus Christi how do I contest???
On vacation I was driving on the HWY in corpus christi heavy traffic due to holiday weekend of the 4th. Cars in front of me starting slamming on brakes, I was the unfortunate driver that veered to the right to miss the car in front of me and a truck was parked on the shoulder no hazard lights on and not completely on the shoulder his tires were touching the white line. Cars in front of me kept going as they hit nothing, and I hit the car on the shoulder. I got the ticket how can I contest this so far away without having to go back to Corpus Christi? I live in Dallas, do i just write a letter contesting a plea of not guilty and explain??? Please help!! problem is they wont give me the citation charges until day I am suppose to appear in court. I did try calling the court clerk and was told I had to appear, but their website said I could submit a letter. guess i just have to pay the unjust ticket.

A: You must go to the court hearing. If you do not they will issue a warrant for your arrest. Sounds stupid but I had the same thing in NJ. They make you appear because you are an out of state resident for some reason. Unfortunately in they eyes of the law you are at fault in this situation because you were not maintaining proper distance between vehicles, and did not have full control of your vehicle. It is B.S but that is the way the law is written.
