Q: Should I live in the town I am going to school in or stay in the town that is about 15 miles away?
I am going to be going to WTAMU which is in Canyon TX and I Live in Amarillo TX which is about 15 miles away. Should I move there to help save on gas, but spend more in rent? Or should I stay in amarillo with Cheaper rent and having to drive to Canyon everyday? I have a pretty fuel effecient car. I get 25 mpg city and about 30-33 highway.
A: I think it would be better if you live in the town where you go to school in..... because there will be less chances of you getting late in school.... and plus, if you have a heavy load at school(homeworks and etc.), and incase you need to stay up late to finish them and wake up late the next day, at least there are chances that you won't get late for school :)
Q: Does anyone know how many hours it is from the Grand Canyon to Cortez by car?
Also how many hours driving time is it from Amarillo to Dallas?
A: It's kind of hard to say but figure about 3.25 hours to the junction of US 89 another 15 minutes to the jct of Sr 64 at Cameron and then about another 35 -40 minutes uphill to the Desert View Entrance to GCNP .Make sure that you fill up in Cameron before heading into GCNP .
Once you get into GCNP how long it takes to get from Desert View to Grand Canyon Village is entirely up to you .
If you haven't driven it before the routing* is almost all on high speed two lane roads that crosses the Navajo Nation and is open range -be careful when passing
As far as Amarillo to Dallas goes figure about 7.5 -8 hours
* Note:
If you feel like adding about .75 hour onto your trip , find US 163 into Mexican Hat UT thru Monument Valley and the back to US 160 at Kayenta AZ
Q: What are the criteria for reporting a possible abuse or neglect case to CPS in Amarillo.?
I know of a 7 or 8 year old boy and his 4 or 5 year old sister, who I am gravely concerned about. The boy had some sort of illness or injury at a young age and he lacks the ability to judge things or to stop himself. He acts completely on impulse. His parents let him roam the neighborhood unsupervised. He has chased vehicles down busy streets, locked himself in a car trunk, terrorized animals, and who knows what else. His sister seems to be OK, but she isn't supervised very much either. They live in a good neighborhood, with lots of people who look out for them, but I am very concerned about what could happen, especially once this little boy hits puberty. I don't know if I should report it or not, but I'd like to know.
A: There is really no criteria needed to report possible neglect ... I am a social worker and from what I see, this family needs to be reported and have the CPS investigate if there is any type of neglect that needs to be taken care of. You can call your local police dept for the CPS phone number and you can always make the report anonymously!

Q: Any suggestions on sites to see on a cross country road trip?
We are relocating from Arizona to Virginia and before the final move, we are driving one of our cars out there via I-40. Does anyone have any suggestions for family friendly things to stop and do to break up the monotony? We have a 5 and a half year old. So far, all I found on the internet was a bunch of local zoos and some Route 66 diners. We will pass through Albuquerque, Amarillo and not sure where else along I-40. Please advise me on what we can see on the trip! Thanks so much!
A: One really fun place on I-40 when you get into Tennessee is Pigeon Forge. Your child (and you) would love it - it's fun for all ages. We have taken the kids there several times and had a ball. Here are some websites:

In Little Rock there is the Arkansas Museum of Discovery - great for kids

Have fun and hope you enjoy Virginia. You will be my northern neighbor. Remember that Virginia is for Lovers!!
Q: What is the cost to haul a non-drivable car on a full car trailer behind a Suburban on the Kansas turnpike?
I know that they charge you per axle. We are driving down a Suburban and a full car trailer. We'll be driving from Sioux Falls, SD down to Amarillo, TX, I believe going the full length of the Kansas turnpike. Would they charge me for the axles not on the ground (on the trailer)? Does it go by weight maybe? Does anyone have a number that I can contact the turnpike toll office? I want to try and compare if maybe driving on the highway would be cheaper than taking the turnpike. Thanks.
A: I think you pay the 18 wheeler rate

Q: What airlines fly into, amarillo, pueblo, wichita, kanas?
husband stranded in Denver, I want to fly to one of these cities from Dallas, tomorrow, rent a car pick him up in Denver and drive back home either Dallas or fly back from same city I fly into for car.
He can not get out of there til chirtmas day...maybe and hotel is over 200 dollars a night...I need you help please!!!
A: Drive to Denver from Dallas... DO NOT FLY to a "halfway" city...
The cost will be very high (walk up fares plus rental car drop fees) and don't expect the airline to repay most (if any) of these costs. Even if they do (or your husband has an expense account) you might A) not be able to get flights right away, if at all, and B) run the risk of being stranded yourself.
Think of it like this: Its 12 hours to drive DFW-DEN... if you were flying to Wichita or Amarillo how much drive time will that knock off? 5, 6 hours? Add up the time you must spend trying to find reservations at home tonight, getting to the airport, waiting at the airport (not just for security... but chances are you will have to wait a while just to find a flight to one of these towns) and then the actual flight time... by then you could already be AT LEAST halfway to Denver.
And I repeat... your scenario will be VERY expensive... probably more than $200 a night hotel rooms for a week!
So do this... go to bed now and get a good nights rest. Get up and drive straight there from Dallas in the morning in your own car. Not only will it be cheaper, but I bet you will get the job done quicker and safer with your own car.
Tell your husband to rest during the day... so if you get there late tomorrow night he can start driving right away and you can sleep in the back seat.
Good luck... although I would suggest that you "encourage" your husband to try harder at finding a ride from someone (anyone) out of town before you leave in the morning.
Oh… and PLEASE be very careful in checking the road conditions and knowing what you are getting yourself into. Don’t risk bad weather just to get your husband home for Christmas. He can sleep on a bench at the airport for a while!
(If you still want to check with the airlines go to http://www.flytecomm.com/cgi-bin/trackflight and "Select Arrival Airport." That will give you a list of all the commercial flights into said city over the past 24 hours.)

Q: can i get my trade vehicle back if the paid me less than i owed?
i live in texas and a dealer tricked me into signing my vehicle over to him and he paid me 6000.00 less than i owed on it can i get it back somehow . he said he sold it already this hapened saturday 4-5-2008
i want the car back instead of owing so much on another car. amarillo texas GMC dealer on Georga
A: Sure, then take the money to Las Vegas and if you lose it in the slot machine just ask the casino and they'll give it back to you.
(What you have is buyer's remorse. I'm assuming you traded in your vehicle for a new one. More than likely the dealer did everything legally. That's why they like to get you to sign papers when you're hot for a car.)
Q: Activities for kids between Amarillo and St. Louis?
We'll be doing a marathon drive between Amarillo and St. Louis in late May with a three-year old boy. That means the occasional stop to let him run around for a couple of hours. The route is I-40 from Amarillo to Oklahoma City, then I-44 to St. Louis.
Any ideas for convenient stops along the way? (I've got St. Louis itself covered in another question and already have some ideas there.) More mysterious would be things to do in OK City, Tulsa, Springfield MO and small towns between.
Also, anything related to the movie "Cars" (such as the Cadillac Ranch near Amarillo) could be cool as our boy is obssessed with that movie.
LOL...thanks, Julie. I already mentioned that one to my wife and she looked at me like I'd look at her suggesting we take him into a shoe store! "But there's a waterfall and a wildlife museum attached," I said. But to no avail. She thinks I'm in it just for the camping gear.
"Oooo...honey, look. Hiking boots!"
A: Bass Pro Shops in Springfield is fun and free (as long as you don't buy anything...)
Q: Do you think it would be cheaper too FLY from Amarillo TX to Dallas TX or DRiVE?
If I fly, i may possibly have to rent a car. Just trying to see which way would bemore economical.
Flying=saves 5 hours, but may have to rent a car
Driving= lose 5 hours, but have a car at my convenience
So.... FLY or DRIVE
Thanks for your opinion in advanced! :)
A: Drive. It's 300 miles or so. The airport is a pain in the rear, plus by the time you drive and park at your airport, wait to fly, fly for 45 min. in the air, land, and wait some more, the time spent will total 3 to 4 hrs. To drive, it will be 5 to 6 hrs. tops, and you will have your own set of wheels here with you. If your vehicle gets 20 mpg., it will cost you $130.00 dollars in gas to drive from Amarillo-DFW-and back.
Q: can I drive a car from amarillo,tx to cancun,mexico?
A: Yes you can but it is a loooong drive...about 40 hrs driving time. If you are a calm, confident patient person...ok. Type A, nerous, hurry-up personalities will never make it. It is challenging and will cost more than a plane ticket...and then you have to drive back. At some point, the unexpected WILL happen. I drove from Colorado to Veracruz ( where I now live) and know people who have driven from Tx to Cancun. You can use the mapsite below for a suggested route...and you will need a Guia Roji, the Mexican road atlas. If you cannot find it at a local book store , you can order it from Amazon. See 2nd site for Mexican car permit info and 3rd site for my fav. car ins..you must have it. See 4th site for reasons you must NOT drive at nite. Have you considered going to Mazatlan or one of the other beaches on the Pacific side of Mexico? Have you considered a bus...buses are luxurious and cheap and many leave form Mc Allen daily for Mexico...would be a 2 1/2 to 3 day trip. You may emal me if i can be of help.
Q: Does anyone know the history of the Cadillac Ranch outside of Amarillo?
I think it's Amarillo, TX. I have passed by it a few times, but the first time was on a Greyhound Bus. The driver was explaining some importance to the cars and what they represent, but I missed what he said. I'm just curious. (Maybe it's not outside of Amarillo, but I'm sure it's along 44 or 40. :)
A: Cadillac Ranch is a public art installation and sculpture in Amarillo, Texas.
Cadillac Ranch was created in 1974 by an artists' collective named Ant Farm, and consists of ten "junker" Cadillac automobiles, representing a number of evolutions of the car line from 1949 to 1963, half-buried nose-first in the ground, at an angle corresponding to that of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. The piece is a statement about the paradoxical simultaneous American fascinations with both a "sense of place"—and roadside attractions, such as The Ranch itself—and the mobility and freedom of the automobile.
Cadillac Ranch is currently located at 35°11′14″N, 101°59′13.4″W. It was originally located in a wheat field, but in 1997 the installation was moved two miles to the west, to a cow pasture along Interstate 40, in order to place it further from the limits of the growing city. Both sites belonged to the local millionare Stanley Marsh 3, a supporter of the project.
Cadillac Ranch is visible from the highway, and though it is located on private land, visiting it (by driving along a frontage road and entering the pasture by walking through an unlocked gate) is tacitly encouraged. In addition, writing graffiti on or otherwise spray-painting the vehicles is also encouraged, and the vehicles, which have long since lost their original colors, are wildly decorated. The cars are periodically repainted various colors (most recently white, and pink before that) to provide a fresh canvas for future visitors.
Cadillac Ranch was created by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels.
