Q: Is it truly illegal to park your car in the entrance to to a driveway even with permission from the owner?
My son was given a ticket for parking in an entrance to a ice cream place that is next door to us. The owner invited him to park there during the winter months when there are restrictions for parking on the street and his business is closed. When he called the police station to question it, he was told that if the officer felt it was against the law then it was and there was nothing he could do about it...................what the heck? Does that mean that the officer has a right to give out tickets for whatever ticks him off?
A: Your son should fight the ticket. Ask the owner of the driveway to go along to offer testimony. You might not get it, but I'd demand an apology from the officer. Consider filing lawsuit against him/her, false arrest.
Q: Where can I park my car?
I am leaving my house for a winter vacation. I have a car that I drive, but it is not going with me. My vacation is going to be close to a month. I don't like the traffic around my house while I'm gone. I don't have a garage. I also have noisy neighbors who looks through park cars. Where should I leave my car?
A: The was actually a joke written about this! A man walks into a bank for a loan, for $5000, he offers to give the bank his brand new Ferrari as collateral on the loan. Of course the loans officer grants the loan since the car is worth way more then $5000. The bank sends an employee to park the Ferrari in their high security under ground parking. I week later the man returns and pays the loan out in full plus the $17.00 interest and the bank returns the Ferrari to him. Just as he is about to leave the loans officer asks him " I just curious, we looked into your financial history and you are a millionaire, why did you need a loan for $5000?" The man smiled and said "Where else in New York city could I park my Ferrari for only $17.00 a week and expect it to still be there when I returned!"
Now I'm guessing your car is not a Ferrari so this really doesn't answer your question. As the other answer said it would be a good idea to either leave the car with a friend or leave it in a shop, most shops don't mind if you leave it there as long as you spend money there and they will make sure it is safe since they don't want to have a claim against their insurance if something should happen to your car well it is there. You could also rent a storage spot at a storage place as well I would think, don't think it would cost much more then $30 for a month so it is much cheaper then parking at the airport. Good luck!
Q: If you don't warm up your car during winter days, is it bad? Does it cost damage to the car or the engine?
I will be parking outside this whole winter and I'm always running out of my door the last minute which means I do not have time to warm up the car. I just get the snow out of my windows and drive...does this cost damage to the car? It warms up after 10 minutes or so when I'm on the high way.
It is 2007 Dodge Caravan...so it is new.
one addition: I'm from Minnesto so the winters are brutal here.
A: Warming up a new car is a waste of gas as it is not necessary.
You can always add a block heater to help with cold starting but my general rule of thumb is to let the engine run for about 20-30 seconds ( just to allow the oil to circulate up to the cylinder head ) when it's cold outside ( I live in On. so yes, I see colder winter temperatures as well ) and then drive off. Just don't drive the car hard. Accelerate gently for the first few minutes until the engine warms up so you don't place undue stress on the cold engine.
Also keep in mind that the engine will warm up much faster if it is under partial load compared to just idling away. By driving it, you will be able to warm up the interior faster.
Q: Tips for practicing my winter driving in a parking lot?
I am 18 and a very cautious driver. I never speed, nor do I do anything aggressive while driving. Despite this, I still managed to get my car stuck in a ditch last winter. So I would like to increase my chances of not screwing up for the future. I already plan to upgrade my tires. I am also thinking about practicing in an empty parking lot (when its very snowy and icy), as I see people recommending that. So my question is....what techniques should I practice in the parking lot? Since I never push my car, I dont exactly know what its capable of, nor do I know its limits. So I plan on getting to know how my car handles in the winter a bit better. The problem when I got stuck in a ditch was I did not know how my car handled, and my mind did not have enough time to think through it logically. I steered and braked the car in the snow as if it was dry (wrong). So what should I practice in the parking lot? And how should I do it?
A: 18 and you don't speed WOW. wish my kids were that way,
first it depends on if your car is front wheel drive or rear wheel, both handle differently in snow, as a general rule if your sliding on ice/snow turn in the direction that you are sliding this will stop the slide, apply brakes in a pulse style ie. push gently release push again.....same thing for stoping at stop signs etc. have you considered a 4 wheel drive vehicle?
Q: how to stop mice from getting in parked car for the winter?
A: Keep a cat under the car
Q: What are some tips to keep from having to scrape your car in the winter?
I park outdoors and every winter I have to spend at least 5 minutes scraping snow and ice off my car. I need some ideas on how to protect your car windows from freezing up overnight. For example, I thought about using a car cover to keep ice off the windows, but it is a big chore to put it over the car by yourself every night. If anyone has any easier ideas or tricks, please help me out. Thanks!
A: i keep my car in a garage, and it also has an auto-start. i find myself laughing at people scraping their windows or having snow covered cars lol. the only time my car has a chance to get any precipitation on it is driving, or being somewhere other than home for long periods of time, which is where the auto-start comes in handy. if you buy one, make sure to keep your heat set to defrost on high, then when you get out there everything is warmed up and ready to go. on my auto-start (AstroStart) i can set the amount of time i want the car to run before it shuts off, its like 5, 15, 30, or 45 minutes. its also combination keyless entry w/trunk release & panic.
Q: How do you prevent frost from forming on car in winter, when its parked overnight?
I hate scrapping my windows every morning in the wintertime.
A: throw a blanket over the windshield at night
Q: Is it bad to constantly start my car in neutral instead of park?
My car is frozen and doesn't shift into park during the winter and now my car wont start and its not the battery so I'm just seeing if this might have had something to do with it.
A: NO, it doesn't make a difference.
Q: What golf courses are near the winter park area/Orlando, Fl?
Im going to school there
and i want to know what golf courses are near there
i wont have a car so needs to be walking distance - i will be living on N Semoran Park Drive
A: oh my gosh the Willowbrook is the best.. Sorry about the car thing... in FL you need a car to do just about everything... they have taxi's in winter haven... also a public bus system.. try one of those ... good luck on the golfing... and stay out of the mid afternoon sun.
Q: What are some good car tips in the winter time?
I need some suggestions about cars for the winter time. Such as making sure you keep more than 1/2 tank of gas in your car. Lifting your wiper blades to keep them from freezing. Make sure to park your car with access to the hood in case you need a jump. I need other ideas. The weather here is really bad.
A: wow that bad. try aspin
Q: Can I park my Mustang convertible outside during the winter?
I have a '99 Mustang convertible, and the house we're moving into has no garage. Will I be able to park it outside during the winter? We only get snow 5-7 times per winter here, and as long as there's not snow or ice on the roads, I drive the car daily.
My main concern in the top - is that material made to withstand snow and ice? Will it damage it?
A: Yes you can park it outside in the snow. They sell a lot of verts in the northern parts of the country and I see them daily even when its snowing. Personally I think that the tops get dirty much faster if driven in the winter because of the increase in road grime. Just wash your car regularly as you would in the summer and you should be alright.
Q: Does the town of Winter Park, Colorado have a library and bus system.?
I am thinking of moving there for the winter and don't have a car. Is it hard to get around without one? I need it to go to work at the ski resort, the gym and the library and the grocery store. By the way is there a gym in that town and what town is close to it so I can find a place? I know I have alot of questions but any input you have will be appreciated.
A: Yes there is a bus system. Also, Winter Park has a gym. Most ski resorts allow for employees to use them. I believe there is a library 3 mile from Winter Park in Fraser, CO. Good Luck
Q: Since the big icestorm and winter snow, I've parked my cars in the yard.?
Now that it's up in the fortys, I have big mud spots where the tires have turned the yard to mud. How do I fix the yard? Help!
A: Now, now you should of known better. Fill them in and add grass seed. That will fix the problem right quick.
Q: Is it necessary to park your car inside a garage during winter in Ohio?
I am moving to a cold climate for the first time and my California parents are freaking out because my house won't have a garage. I am going to the Dayton, OH area. Is having a garage a necessity? If yes, why?
A: I lived in Central Pa, where it has pretty similar weather.
I did not have a garage and it was alright.
the only things that suck are the fact that your car gets covered in snow and your doors may freeze shut.
Just get up a little earlier when it snows so you have time to clean your car off. They sell brushed for this. Turn your car on to let the windows deice. Also, keep a bottle of windshield washer fluid in your house, the type that has a deicer in it. If your doors are frozen shut, or your locks are iced over, just pour a little of that on and it will unfreeze them.
Also invest in a snow shovel to dig a path out for your car if necessary.
Q: I have to park my car outside in winter, any tips?
In winter I have to drive at 7 in the morning, and my car is freezing when I get in. Do you have any tips for keeping it warmer? For example, could I put a steering wheel cover on so my hands don't freeze? Parking in a garage is not an option for me.
A: 1) Frost cover for the windshield so you can just whip it off and have a clear view. This also helps keep some heat inside the car.
2) I don't know where you are, but an engine block heater installed can help your engine warm up faster and save some wear 'n' tear on startup by keeping the oil warmer. You need to be able to plug it into an outlet though.
3) What we did: Start the coffee. Go outside & start the car. After it's running set the defroster on full. Go inside, drink the coffee. When you're done the car should be toasty. If it's not too cold I could take my coffee to the car and it would be defrosted already.
4) Leather seats are so bogus! They have all the disadvantages of vinyl at 100 times the cost. Butt burners in the summer, 'nad freezers in the winter, and if someone sits down with a pen in his back pocket, it's adios dinero! If you have leather, get a woolly seat cover.
5) Your state's Department of Transpo issues windshield ice scrapers. They also double as your drivers' license.
6) A steering wheel cover is easy to put on and definitely helps. You can also keep a pair of gloves in the car.
