Q: Orlando Car Rental. Is it cheaper to upgrade once you arrive there or do you get a better deal ?
if you choose a grade up at the time of booking? I will not be booking through a travel agent so i will be booking online probably.
A: It's not necessarily cheaper, although most of the tier-2 car companies will try to give you a "deal" on an upgrade at the counter. This is the classic "bait-and-switch" technique. They lure you in with a REALLY low rate and then tell you that your reserved car sucks and they want to give you a better one for just $99 more for the week.
I try to go with one of the tier-1 rental companies (Hertz, Avis, Budget, Alamo/National, etc). They don't usually try to get you to upgrade (unless they're out of the car you want, then they try to get you to upgrade and if you say no, they give you the upgrade for free anyway).
I would avoid PAYLESS rental car in Orlando at all costs. Not only do they do the Bait-and-Switch routine, they also try to strong-arm you into taking the damage waiver by telling you that your insurance won't cover a rental (a blatant lie) and that your deductible will be twice as high. There isn't an ethical fiber in that company at all.
Q: Does anybody in Orlando have a car they want to give away free?
I live in Orlando Florida, my health is poor and I need a car to get back and forth to my doctor's visits, and to work. I take the city bus now, but it takes most of the day just to get to the doctor's office on the bus. Please help me, I don't care what the car looks like, I'll take care and value it like a new one.
A: You never know. Check Craigslist and join a few local Freecycle groups. It seems far-fetched, but my husband and I gave away a car last year to a family that needed it when we got a new one.
Q: How to get around with a car in Orlando?
I'm going to Orlando in October and as i'm under 21 I cant rent a car. Im staying on International drive. I know that certain hotels offer complimentary transportation to the main theme parks but I would also like to be able to go to the Florida Mall as well as the Orlando Premium outlet, both of these places are almost out of reach walking. At night I will mainly go to the restaurants and attractions around International drive. What are the easy ways to get around except the expenseve way of a Taxi everywhere?
A: Some folks here really do not know what they are talking about.
There is just one lynx bus (no transfers) between I-drive and the Florida mall (Link 42).
There is just 2 buses (one transfer) between I-drive and Downtown Disney (link 38 to central station, link 300 to Disney) This route will take a while though because it goes 10 miles in the wrong direction to get the transfer (which is direct to Disney from downtown Orlando) - So a hotel shuttle makes more sense for that if you can get one.
From the northern end of Idrive (wet and wild area) just walk to Universal. If on the Southern end, (Convention center) just walk to sea world or take the I-drive trolley bus.
Q: Where can I purchase car insurance to drive a rental car in Orlando, America for a 20 year old?
I have found a car hire company which allow 19 and 20 year olds to hire cars from them in Orlando, but say underage drivers have to provide full proof of insurance to be able to drive the rental car - any ideas where I can get this insurance? Thanks
A: You can try this company - http://autoinsurance.bebto.com - I personally have their car insurance. As I know they have such a service.
Q: How long does it take to get from New York to Orlando by car?
Does anyone know roughly how long it will take a person travelling by car to get to Orlando from New York?
Thanks xxx
A: Two days hard driving, three or four if you're not in a hurry.
Q: How come the prices of rental cars in Orlando Florida have gone up so much? The prices are almost double what?
we paid 2 years ago it is rediculous?
A: The pricing analysts at the big rental car companies are some of the best revenue maximizers anywhere - for Orlando, that means as supply gets low, the prices go WAY up. High demand times, like holidays, spring break, etc. drive prices up sometimes 100-400%.
Q: What are some places in Orlando, Florida, where I might rent exotic cars?
I've heard of 407 Exotic Toys, but are there others? I'm looking to rent a Lamborghini or Ferrari or something similar for my wedding in Februrary. It would be even cooler, in my opinion, if could rent something fairly rare that only car buffs know about but isn't necessarily high-priced, like an MG or a Triumph or something, but I would certainly not mind driving a Murcielago or an F430 or something either.
A: Try a private owner. I was looking for a Ferrari last summer and that's what I had to do.
Q: What company does the large UPC stickers on cars belong to? These stickers are seen around Orlando.?
I believe these are form a large company to track employees vehicles, but do'nt know which one.
No, their not rental cars. These are personal cars in the Orlando area. The sticker is about 2 inches by 4 inches and there are so many it must be vehicle tracking for some kind of company (it's not the DMV I already asked them). This has been a long term question of mine on Answers. Thanks
A: Are you talking about the bar codes on the rear side windows of cars? If so I thought they were all rental cars, an easy way to check the cars in and out.
Later I noticed they are used to open gates for exclusive comunities. Maybe some not so exclusive places also. Rather than drive up to an entrance gate and pushing in a code number, a bar code reader reads the code on your car, opens the gate and you drive in. Rather simple.
Q: It used to be al the rage to jack tourists driving hired cars from the airport to Miami and Orlando.?
Is that still happening much?
A: I remember that from quite some years back - it made headlines all around the world.
Several tourists were shot and killed too.

I must admit I haven't heard of any further killings from carjacking but apparently it still happens on occasion in both Miami and Orlando.
If you are traveling there and are concerned, here are some basic safety tips:

Q: Renting a car at Alamo in Orlando airport and was wondering if you get to choose car?
I rented a full size car at Orlando Airport and was wondering if you get to choose the car form the lot? Also what kinds of cars do they rent at Alamo for a full size vehicle? Thanks.
A: Generally, they will just assign a car to you, but I have found that if you have a preference sometimes the person serving you will allow you some choice - once I asked for a red car, and they found me one!
Look on the Alamo website to determine what types of cars are included in "full size".
Q: It used to be all the rage to car-jack tourists driving hired cars from the airport to Miami and Orlando?
Is that still happening much?
A: No, you used to be able to tell a rented car by the license plate number, but that was changed to address the problem.
Q: Orlando car rental in terminal or shuttle?
I've been searching for the best rates on car rentals in Orlando from 6/8-6/17/07 & some rentals are in the terminal at the airport, some have the counter in the terminal with a shuttle to the car and some just have a shuttle to the counter AND car. Should I choose a car company that can specifically be picked up in the terminal, what's better? Thanks!
A: I only book rentals that are accessible from the terminal, I find after a long day of traveling the last thing I want to do is take a shuttle, pricing is usually higher but I just want to get to my hotel once I arrive so I find it more of a convience.
=) Try dollar, Avis, or Alamo I usually find good rates with them.
With Avis if you prepay on their website you get great savings, I rented a SUV and saved over $90.00 by prepaying on their website.
Q: Orlando airport car rentals. Assigned cars?
At the Orlando airport, does anyone know which car rental companies let you select a car and which ones assign you a car? I prefer the ones that let you just go to the full size car area and take whichever one you want. I've been told that some just assign you a car and hassle you if you want something different. I like to use traveling as a way to test drive vehicles.
Yes, they do allow you to choose. I've done it before in Orlando, just can't recall who the rental was with. You simply go to the lot, choose the vehicle, all of which have the keys in them, and check it out at the booth.
A: It doesnt matter which company you go to, they all work off a booking sheet and what car you get depends on availability. First priority goes to those who have pre-booked. Some people specify "must-haves" for their rental vehicle so the staff find a vehicle to suit the needs then "lock" this vehicle into the booking so no one else can rent it, and no staff member can change it without authority. If you have certain needs for your test drive, tell them at the counter, or prebook, and they will choose the category that this vehicle fits into. If you are in the "touring"category there may be 3 different types of vehicles in this category eg Honda Accord, Toyota Camry or Nissan Maxima. Find out what the choices are then SPECIFY which you prefer and they will put this in your booking notes. This is an example only but this is how it works. Sorry its not specific to Orlando.
At the car rental company I was manager for we only ever took people out and gave them a choice if (a) we had several spare vehicles, (b) we wanted to impress that person or (c) were extremely bored and had run out of work. Even though you see a carpark full of cars most will have bookings on them, that is why they are parked up at the airport and not in a cheaper storage yard. A few "spares" are brought to the airport in the hopes that someone like you will walk up and just rent one (usually at full rates)
Good luck :)
Q: Is there anywhere in Orlando, FL that rents cars to 20-year-olds?
I may be traveling to Orlando in a few months to go to a concert, but no one in the party (myself included) is over 20.
I know some of the major companies lowered the minimum age from 25 to 21 with surcharges included, but I need to find a company that will rent a 20-year-old a car without any hassle. I'd be paying with a credit card and I'm fully insured.
A: http://www.e-zrentacar.com
Give that one a go!
Q: would anyone know the rules regarding children in cars in orlando florida?
we will be travelling to the US (specifically orlando) this May2007 and will be renting a car. I would thus like to get information on kids and car seats. I have a 4yr old and a 1yr old.
FYI. we are from the Philippines where there are no rules regarding car seats. i use a convertible car seat for my 1yr old and a booster seat for my 4 year old. its easy to transport the booster seat all the way from the other side of the world but itll be a big hassle to bring the convertible car seat.
im open to suggestions.
A: you can rent the car seats for children! click on options when you reserve your rental car online!!
