Q: CALIfORNIA!!!?????
For Calif. police, laser is the new radar:
It used to be that if you liked to speed but didn't want to get a ticket, you could buy a radar detector and hope for the best. B u t that's not a good idea in the High Desert.
Traffic deputies in the area use laser technology called Lidar to determine who is speeding and who is not.
While radar is still used on many cars and serves a different function, laser is not picked up by radar detectors. Even if you were to purchase a laser detector, the laser is only transmitted when a deputy shoots it at your vehicle.
"Meaning, but the time you're locked in and the detector alerts you, it's already too late. You're caught," said Deputy James Marshall of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Victorville station.
Lasers can detect speeds from roughly 1,000 feet away and several models can calculate both speed and distance, while others measure distance only.
interesting huh?!! =) lol
A: Good for the Police!! There are way too many speeders here!! (Northern California) Maybe it will help decrease the unbelievable accident rate and make the roads safer for those of us that actually obey the traffic laws.........
Q: problem w/2006 mustang gt automatic after 1 hr frwy drive, stop at light, shifting 1st to 2nd...?
i get off the freeway and stop at a light. when trying to get going again, instead of shifting smoothly from 1st to 2nd gear, the car nosedives, almost wanting to come to a stop, finaly shifts rough into 2nd gear...this happens every day on my drive home and happens only the very first time when exiting the freeway and coming to a complete stop at the light. the only way to possibly avoid it is to absolutely "baby" the car off the green light and even then it happens most of the time.... dealership in victorville "cannot duplicate" what happens to me every day....please help me!! no more warranty... 50k miles.. what is the problem? where to go? what to ask? Thank You!!
A: their is a solenoid inside the transmission that sound like it is sticking. I don't know the name of this solenoid but will post it later today. have it replaced and have the transmission serviced at the same time. You might also try a different dealer, this is a some what common problem that dealers should be aware of. I have an 05 mustang had the same problem but was under warranty so I don't know the cost to repair.

Q: What is the best way (affordable)to go to Victorville,CA from Ontario CA airport.?
I am planning to visit my sis, she just moved to Victorville CA from LA, its surprise visit so i cant ask her to pick me up, and i don’t have driving license either, to rent a car from Ontario CA, I tried to check greyhound or any other transport service but. no success. Can any one help me to give advice what is the best way to go there? (please don’t tell me to rent limo, cant afford that)Please it’s not a joke. Serious Answers required. Thanks in advance and 5 Stars promised. for a good answer.
A: From the Ontario Airport you would take a cab 13 miles to the Greyhound Depot in Claremont, Ca. (888 Indian Hill Blvd) then Greyhound bus to Victorville, and taxi to your sisters house.
Greyhound runs 3 daily schedules out of Claremont to Victorville: 8 & 11 am, & 3 pm. The best choice is 11 am, the 3 pm has a 3 hour layover in San Bernardino. Fare is $19.00 each way.
Do a websearch for Ontario area cab companies, and call one for an estimate on a 13 mile trip. This will be your most expensive part of the trip. Good Luck on your journey.

Q: How much does car insurance for minors cost?
I live in Victorville, California and I'm 16 years old. What is the average price for car insurance in my area and for my age?
A: We live in North Carolina. I don't know if the insurance companies are doing this all over, but here, a driver from 16 - 23 years of age pays a lot in insurance, but after 18 years it starts to go down. You want to get on an old car, it helps a little. We have our kids on a 1993 and 2005 model cars, so you can see, we've tried to save as much as possible. We started with 125.00 per month with my daughter at 16 years of age. She is now 19 and we are down to $111.00 per month, that's right PER MONTH. It is more for my son. He is 16 and just got his drivers license. We are paying $135.00 per month for him. It will go down a little when he turns 18. We had an assessment done to see if we could get cheaper insurance through other companies. We were told to stay with who we have. My husband and I pay less together for a year than we pay for our kids for a month. It's a rip off the insurance companies fixed. And btw: If they get into an accident and it's their fault, their coverage triples for 3 years. We won't be able to afford it, so we told our kids to be extra careful when they drive or they will have to either pay the difference or give up their license. We'll do what we can for them, but you can see, a new drivers insurance is expensive.
Q: how do I reduce the price of past due car plates?
alright, my uncle gave me a car for free because it broke down, so i bought a new engine for it, but I found out yesterday that the plates had been past due since July 2002, so I went to the DMV and asked for the price, they told me it was from $450-$500 for the payment. I can't afford that much money after I bought the engine, and I don't want to throw it away since the car's trim is perfect and so is the interior. So can anyone tell me how to lower that price?
The car is a 1993 Geo Prizm and I live in Victorville, CA if that helps.
A: Did you explain to them that you didn't own the car, and it has not been driveable? I had a similar thing in AZ, where I had let a truck sit for 3 years, I finally got around to registering it and they tried to make me pay for the time it hadn't been used. I had to sign an affidavit stating the vehicle was parked for 3 years and they waived the past due charges.
Q: I need help learning how to drive?
I live in Victorville CA and I need to get my CDL, my husband doesn't have the time to train me so I got some lessons but they are soo expensive, I have no friends or relatives here to help so I was thinking to try the neighbors and offer a lady some money to teach me how to drive, I have the car, the insurance and my permit what you think? Will my neighbors think I'm crazy?
A: As an expert driving instructor in California for 25 years, please read what I have to say.
It is a very common for a new driver to try to save some money by hiring their friends and neighbors in order to teach them how to drive. It very often results in an accident and after you get finished paying the insurance deductable, you could have spent that money on learning to drive.
The other thing that happens is that you pick up all of your neighbor's bad driving habits. After all of this, most people get so frustrated they finally call a driving school.
If your husband wanted to learn to fly an airplane, would you want him to learn from a professional flight instructor or just the neighborhood pilot who lives down the street? You already know the answer.
Driving a car is much more dangerous than flying an airplane, please don't short-change yourself. With 125 people dying every day in the US, it's just not worth the risk. Eighty percent (80%) of new drivers get into a reportable accident in the first three years of driving. You pay for insurance on your car, try looking at driving lessons as insurance on you. You are worth it!!!
All that being said, not all driving instructors are good, especially in California. You really have to look really hard for a good one, not just the one they send out to you. Call around to several driving schools in your area and ask to speak with the manager, then ask for the name of their most experienced instructor and how long he/she has been instructing. I would suggest finding an instructor with at least 10 years experience.
I don't know which driving schools are the "good" ones in your area but if you contact me, I will make an effort to help you find one.

Q: Where are you going???
If you travel northbound everyday on the I-15 between Ontario and Victorville - where are you going??? I make the opposite commute on many occasions and it's always packed between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m, EVERY DAY of the week. I can't figure out if everyone works in Ontario and goes back home to Victorville or if you're all taking a trip to Vegas every night. So if you're one of the cars locked in gridlock - what's your story?
A: That is the only freeway that links the high desert with the inland empire. People have moved up there because they can afford NEW 6 bedroom houses there for the same price of a 2 bedroom 1950's house in the Inland Empire.
