Q: Anyone know of any streets or places in San Jose to park cars that are for sale by owner?
I thought I saw a street in Campbell one time that had a lots cars parked that were for sale by owner, but I can't remember where it was. I'd like to find out about places like this that are in or very near San Jose.

A: There are pockets of these unofficial car lots scattered all over the Bay Area and presumably the state including 19th Avenue in San Francisco and Monterey Highway, a stretch of Highway 82 in San Jose. But the impromptu auto mart along El Camino across the street from Palo Alto High School, and a similar portion of the road that runs through Millbrae, are among the biggest. In Palo Alto, it stretches for about a half mile taking up much of the unmetered parking space in front of park land and Stanford athletic fields. Lawmakers passed a bill now awaiting the governor's signature that would allow cities to cite and tow the cars. The bill's sponsor, state Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Mateo, says the practice causes congestion and is unsafe. Buyers and sellers are upset by the prospect of losing their personal used car lot. They like the convenience and no fuss nature of the practice, just park your ride and stick a sign in the window. Plus, it's free and no salespeople. I don't think this law is a very good idea. The safety thing is sort of understandable, because of cars whizzing by a few feet away. But this seems like such an easy thing for people especially if they don't have Internet access and don't want to go to a lot. The bill does not apply to city streets. San Jose City Attorney Rick Doyle said the city has not enforced the ordinance that outlaws car sales on local roads because a federal court ruled in 2000 that such laws violate free speech. It was after that ruling that the unofficial used car sites began to proliferate. I live in Campbell along Bascom ave and I don't see any known streets or places to park cars that are for sale by owner. Of course, you could put your car up for sale up at Wheels and Deals, a car lot just for private owners.

Q: i am 18 can I rent a car in san jose del cabo?
Also I was wondering if the buses are still running, because I heard the taxi drivers are on strike there. I know only some places allow 18 year olds to rent cars I was wondering which one in san jose del cabo possibly near the royal solaris.

A: Hola. Most of the car rental places won't let you rent at 18, but there is a guy who is right across the street from the royal solaris, who might do it....he's right next to Alex's corner store there. He also has scooters. If I think of it, I'll ask him next time I walk by. In the meantime, the buses are still running, and there are plenty of alternatives to the taxis, alot of the resorts have shuttles and other arrangements, so don't worry.

Q: Can anyone tell me of a parking lot or street in the San Jose area that usually has cars for sale by owner?
I am looking for a used car and have looked online and at Wheels and Deals and other similar Car Lots as well as in the news paper. I used the see certain parking lots where there were always at least 2-5 cars for sale by the owner. I am not seeing hardly any cars on the street anywhere that are for sale. Am I just looking in the wrong places. Please if you know of a street or parking lot that always has a car or two for sale, let me know!! Thanks

A: Ohlone College in Fremont which is about 30 minutes NorthEast of San Jose runs a lot for owner used vehicles for sale. It is on Mission Blvd.

Q: What service will give me the best travel deal for a flight + hotel + car from San Jose to San Diego?
Travelocity? Orbitz? Expedia? Something else. I'm not willing to take just any hotel or flight. I want to be able to specifically pick from certain hotels and room types.

A: The best thing for you to do is check the prices on all of those you mentioned and see where you can get the best deal. You might also check out www.ytbtravel.com/WeWin. I've been able to help a few people find a good deal from this site. Have a good trip!

Q: San Jose car rental?
My fiance is going to San Jose next week and we can't find a decent car rental price. He is looking for an economy car and he is 23. Does anyone know where the best place to go is for his age? He will have to pay the extra insurance since he's not 25. Price, hotwire...etc. all show the over age 25 rate.

A: go to dollar! they are the cheapest by far. i would rent from the airport as they are the cheapest location and most convienient times for drop off and pick up. if you go off-site you will have narrower times to pick-up/drop-off. their rates arent that bad for under 25 either. if not dollar than enterprise would be the next best bet for those of us under 25. the other places arent renting to anyone under 25.

Q: Is it cheaper to rent a car than shuttle from San Jose Cabo airport to downtown Cabo San Lucas?
Is it cheaper to rent a car than shuttle from San Jose Cabo airport to downtown Cabo San Lucas? What one way car rental would you recommend from the SJD airport to downtown Cabo San Lucas and back? Also, do you know of a photo website/blog about the Downtown Cabo San Lucas? thnx Forgot to mention: There's 4 people arriving.

A: Hola! No, it wouldn't be cheaper to rent a car. And there isn't any one way car rental companies I know of. You'd have to return the car to the airport. So, consider transport by shuttle or taxi. Both are easy to get, will take you directly to your hotel and no hassles. Right now you would pay about $25 per person for a shuttle and about $60 for a taxi. Once in Cabo, you can pretty well walk around, with the occasional need of a cab. Its a pretty accessible town. If you plan any outside cabo trips - chileno bay, todos santos, la paz, SJD, playita, then a rental of car would come in handy. There are lots of websites for Cabo. My favorite one is www.loscabosguide.com You can also try www.cabo.com www.allaboutcabo.com for blogs, there are tons of those out there too. try www.caboblog.com www.blogspot.com www.travelblog.com

Q: How close is San Jose to Oakland by car?
I'm flying into Oakland this week. My ultimate destination is San Jose, but I cannot get a non-stop flight from here to there. Figuring I could go into Oakland and go the rest of the route via cab or shuttle. Thanks.

A: You can make public transit connections from Oakland airport to San Jose. Take the AirBART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) shuttle from the airport to the BART Coliseum station. Ride BART south to Fremont statin (end of the line). At Fremont BART , you can transfer directly to VTA (Valley Transit Authority) busses that run to San Jose. There are three express routes (120, 140, 180) from Fremont BART to San Jose. Route 180 goes all the way to the San Jose rail station near downtown. You can make connections to all over San Jose by bus or light rail from several points on the route. See the VTA website for schedules and maps. You can search the site by route number or area.

Q: San Jose, CA car rental with no credit/debit card?
Does anyone know how I can rent a car from the San Jose, CA airport or surrounding area, without a credit / debit card? I have cash.

A: Some car rental companies have a cash rental qualification department. You would just call the toll-free number for the rental company and ask for cash qualification. It usually requires about 4 - 6 weeks to process. If you are approved you would be issued a cash qualification card and be able to rent from that company with cash at any time. Hope this helps!

Need most direct route by air/car from San Jose, CA, to Plumas County, specifically the towns of Graeagle or Cromberg.

A: The airports in those cities are private so you would have to charter a plane to fly there. Check out these driving directions from Mapquest... I was just up in that area and these are the directions I used. http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&rmm=1&un=m&cl=EN&qq=hltF3hzNT9tNhURP0HLlhh9UYBmHRqyBceg4Gkon14D8uewLk7pjHQ%253d%253d&ct=NA&rsres=1&1y=US&1ffi=&1l=&1g=&1pl=&1v=&1n=&1pn=&1a=&1c=san+jose&1s=ca&1z=95124&2y=US&2ffi=&2l=&2g=&2pl=&2v=&2n=&2pn=&2a=&2c=graeagle&2s=ca&2z=&r=f
